Does ATL have customs and immigration on international arrival?

Yes — U.S. CBP processing is handled at the lower levels of Concourses E and F.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) processing for international arrivals at Hartsfield-Jackson is handled at the lower levels of Concourses E and F. Arriving international passengers deplane, descend to the immigration hall, complete CBP processing, collect bags, clear customs, and either re-enter the secure area for connecting flights or exit to ground transportation.

Standard CBP processing for U.S. citizens with traditional passports typically takes 25-45 minutes. Global Entry kiosks and Mobile Passport Control (MPC) significantly reduce processing time — typically 10-15 minutes total for Global Entry users and 15-25 minutes for MPC users.

International-to-domestic connecting passengers at ATL must clear CBP, claim bags, and re-check bags for the onward domestic flight, then re-clear security. This process typically takes 60-90 minutes total. Plan for a minimum 90-minute layover when connecting from international to domestic.

International-to-international connecting passengers do not need to formally enter the U.S. — there's a separate dedicated CBP processing area for transit passengers that allows them to remain in the secure area. International transit connections are typically faster than international-to-domestic.
