FAQ · Practical Tips

Can I meet someone at an ATL gate?

No — only ticketed passengers can enter the secure area. Meet at baggage claim or the cell phone waiting lot.

Only ticketed passengers (or those with TSA escort passes for accessibility needs) can enter the secure area at Hartsfield-Jackson. Non-ticketed family members or friends cannot accompany travelers through security to gates.

The standard meet-up location for arriving passengers is at baggage claim. Each airline's bags arrive at specific carousels; the FIDS displays in the baggage claim area show carousel assignments by flight.

For drivers picking up arriving passengers, the cell phone waiting lot (free, 1-hour limit, located south of the airport off I-85) is the best option. Wait in the lot until your passenger calls or texts to confirm they're at baggage claim with their luggage. Drive to the arrivals curb (4-6 minutes) for a quick pickup.

Some airlines offer special escort passes for travelers requiring assistance — contact the airline directly with at least 48 hours advance notice. These passes allow a non-ticketed companion to escort the traveler through security to the gate.
