Overnight Layover at ATL — Hotel and Airport Strategies

10+ hour overnight layover — the question is whether to leave the airport for a real bed or sleep airside.

An overnight layover at Hartsfield-Jackson — typically a late-evening arrival and an early-morning departure with 8–14 hours between flights — usually justifies the cost of an airport hotel. Sleeping airside at ATL is possible but uncomfortable.

Recommended airport-area hotels with free shuttle service: Renaissance Atlanta Airport (5-min shuttle, $150–250/night), Marriott Atlanta Airport Gateway (8-min shuttle, $130–220/night), Hyatt Regency Atlanta Airport (5-min shuttle, $140–240/night), Hilton Atlanta Airport (10-min shuttle, $120–200/night). All offer 24-hour airport shuttle service. Book in advance for the best rates.

If you prefer to sleep airside, the best options are: Minute Suites on Concourse B (private nap suite, $55/hour or 1-hour Priority Pass credit), The Club ATL on Concourse F (Priority Pass-affiliated lounge with quiet seating, open until 11:30 p.m.), or Concourse T's quieter end-of-concourse seating areas (free but uncomfortable). The airport closes most retail and dining around midnight and reopens around 4–5 a.m.

Showers are available at: Minute Suites ($25 add-on), Delta Sky Clubs (free for members, 5–8 stalls per club), The Club ATL (free for Priority Pass members, 4 stalls). All include towels and basic toiletries.

The MARTA station closes around 12:30 a.m. and reopens around 5:00 a.m., so MARTA is not a viable late-night/overnight transportation option. Use rideshare or a hotel shuttle for late-arriving connections.

For an early-morning departure (5–7 a.m.), check in online the night before, drop bags at the curbside check-in (open from approximately 4:00 a.m.), and head straight to security. TSA PreCheck dramatically reduces wait times during the 5–7 a.m. peak.
